Is my boy too young or old and how's things organized?

Boys are grouped with other boys of their same grade level into Dens.  Several Dens make up a Pack.  A den may be made up of six to eight boys and packs made up of six to eight dens.

1st graders are grouped into TIGER Cub dens
2nd graders are grouped into WOLF Cub dens
3rd graders are grouped into BEAR Cub dens
4th graders are grouped into WEBELO 1 dens
5th graders are grouped into WEBELO 2 dens
6th and above are in the Boy Scouts.  Talk to the Narragansett Council.

Dens usually meet every week or two with boys and a parent for about an hour to do activities.

The Pack meets once a month with all the cub scouts

What do kids normally do at a den meeting?

There is an opening ceremony (Pledge of Allegance or Cub Scout Promise).  The boys will then work on a fun activity that will help them with earning advancement badges.  Activities may include: hikes, arts & crafts, games, outdoor projects, community service, learning about their family & neighborhood, or safety.

What goes on at a Pack meeting?

All the cub scouts, leaders and families are invited.  The Pack meeting is a time for fun, ceremony, and recognition.  Awards and recognitions are given to those who advance and have worked hard.  The entire Pack also meets to go on special trips like camping, fishing, visiting museums, collecting food for the RI Food Bank, snow tubing trips, bowling, and other fun activities.  Every January the Pack holds its annual Pinewood Derby model car race.

What is the Narragansett Council?

Many Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops in southeastern New England are bunched together and administered by the Narragansett Council.  The Council organizes several camps and programs for all boys to enjoy.

Some of the camps include: Camp Aquapaug (right here in South Kingstown), Buck Hill Family Camp (Burrillville), Camp Buxton (Rehoboth, MA), Cub World (Burrillville), Camp Champlin (Cranston), Camp Cachalot (Carver, MA), Camp Sandsland (Block Island), and Camp Yawgoog (Hopkinton).  Numerous camping, fishing, boating, and hiking opportunities are offered.

The Council also administers moneys that help support Scouting including Camp Scholarships for those in need of financial assistance.

Who's in charge?

We are always looking for parents to get involved.  Whether it is volunteering to help dish out food at the Blue and Gold Banquet or becoming a Den Leader, your participation is critical to the success of your boy and the Pack.

Leaders are supported with numerous resources that are provided by the Pack and Council.  There are training opportunities and materials that will go a long way to getting you started on the right foot.  Parents also help the leaders by giving a hand coordinating and running den meetings.  Parents provide a wealth of experience that will be tapped into often.  Leaders are always supported and provided with the knowledge to make Cub Scouting a success.

What does it cost?

Scouting is a very low cost and affordable fun activity for your sons to enjoy.  Yearly dues are about $20-30.  Uniform prices vary depending on the age of the child (see uniform page).  With scholarships, camp scholarships, gently used uniforms, and other assistance, no boy will be turned away.  Our mission is to ensure that every boy has the opportunity to grow and have fun in Scouts.

To help us accomplish our mission, Pack 66 has one fundraiser every fall to defray the enormous costs involved with running the organization.  Costs include scholarships mentioned above, patches & badges for boys who advance, food for special events, Pinewood Derby cars for every boy, and much, much more.

Having fun while learning.
