Health and safety of our cub scouts and
our families is the most important job we have. As leaders and parents, it is
our responsibility to ensure all our cubs have fun while being supervised in a controlled safe environment. To accomplish this, leaders and parents must team together to ensure that all our children are secure while
enjoying activities. After all, the Pack 66 family is a big part of our lives
and there is no higher concern than ensuring the health and welfare of our children.
To assist in accomplishing
this goal, the Pack 66 Committee has written the following policies to help guide us.
CODE
OF CONDUCT POLICY
One of the most important tasks is to lay the
foundation of what is acceptable behavior for a cub scout. Since all cubs should
be familiar with is polite behavior, the short list below only supplies items unique to cub scouting or reinforcement of those
where extra attention is needed.
- All cubs must live by the Cub Scout Oath, Law, and Promise.
- All children must have a responsible adult, preferably a parent, in attendance at all times at all events and meetings.
- No running is allowed unless as part of an organized activity.
- No offensive or hurtful language shall be tolerated.
- No talking while speaker is addressing the group.
- Always keep hands and feet to oneself.
- Always be respectful to other Cubs, siblings and adults.
- When the Cub Scout Sign is raised by an adult leader, everyone in the room is expected to be quiet, Cubs must raise
their Cub Scout Sign too, and be prepared to follow instructions and to listen carefully.
Meetings will start on time. After the meeting starts, late arrivals should be respectful
by entering the room through the back doors and use respectful discretion during the Opening Ceremony and Pledge of Allegiance.
POCKETKNIFE POLICY
Safety
is our most important job. Pack 66 wishes to promote a safe environment by having
the following pocketknife policy.
1.
Wherever or whenever a function is held where knives are not allowed, a cub must be respectful. At a minimum, knives will be confiscated and returned to parent.
2.
Cubs who have earned the privilege of carrying a knife must follow the Whittling Chip Safety Requirements.
a.
I will treat my pocketknife with the respect due a useful tool.
b. I will always close my pocketknife and put it away when not in use.
c.
I will not use my pocketknife when it might injure someone near me.
d. I promise never to throw my pocketknife for any reason.
e.
I will use my pocketknife in a safe manner at all times.
3.
If a WC carrying boy violates any WC rules, the witnessing leader, at his/her discretion may tear/clip
a corner of the boy's WC to indicate the infraction. Alternatively a strong warning may be administered. With the loss of
the fourth corner, the WC and knife are confiscated. The knife is given to the parents with a verbal explanation of the situation.
The boy must then re-do the requirements for earning another WC in order to carry a knife again.
4.
Only pocketknives with short blades are allowed. No straight
blades are allowed.
5.
No boy can carry a knife unless he has earned the Whittling Chip (WC) by completing Achievement 19 in
the Bear Book, including travel to and from Cub Scout activities. When carrying the knife, the WC must be in the boy's pocket
and be presented to any leader that asks to see it. (Some Packs suggest a small belt sheath for the knife and the neatly folded
WC. So where the knife goes, the WC goes.)
6.
No knives, whatsoever, are to be brought to any Pack or Den function or event, unless specifically approved
in writing by the leader, including our family picnic or campout.
At any function where knives are to be used in the activity,
the Safety Rules and Pocketknife Pledge are to be read aloud before the activity begins. This will remind everyone of the
importance of safety considerations when using knives.
PACK EVENTS AND MEETINGS POLICY
Safety of our cub scouts and our families is the most important job we have. With approximately 50 boys and their families in attendance at Pack functions, it is a challenge to supervise
all in attendance.
The Pack 66 leadership strives to create an interesting scout program full of fun and educational
activities. All parents, not just those volunteering as leaders, are encouraged
to take advantage of the vast opportunities provided by the Boy Scouts of America and our local Narragansett Council to create
a fun, fantastic, and memorable experience.
Cub Scouting is a family oriented program. Families
are encouraged to get involved with their Cub Scout by joining him in activities, helping out his Den and Pack with events,
and providing a positive environment for fun and learning.
Therefore, the Pack has the following policy for Pack events and meetings:
1.
Cub scouting
is a family oriented program. Families are encouraged to get involved with their Cub Scout by joining him in activities, helping
out his Den and Pack
with events, and providing a positive environment for fun and learning.
2.
Pack meetings
will be held every month at 6:50 p.m. at Peace Dale Elementary School. All Cub
Scouts are expected to attend the Pack meetings to join in the fun.
3.
All Scouts
must have a parent or a designated responsible adult at the Pack meeting all times. With dozens of children in the building
and other non-Pack 66 events held in the building at the same time, it is impossible to supervise all children at all times. The leaders of Pack 66 cannot and will not guarantee 100% supervision of 100% of the
cubs 100% of the time. Please help your cub make scouting not only a fun experience,
but a safe one too.
4.
Cubs and siblings need adult supervision in hallways while traveling
to and from bathrooms.
5.
If a Scout
cannot attend the Pack meeting, please notify the Den Leader prior to the meeting. Boys may be participating in a flag ceremony,
a skit, or are receiving advancement and the leader needs to know which boys will be there to participate.
6.
To ensure
a rich experience with fulfilling and meaningful activities each family is strongly encouraged to actively participate by
volunteering to help out in at least one organized event. This will ensure the
work is evenly and lightly spread throughout our cub scout family.
7.
Scouting is
one of the least expensive, organized, year-round activities your boy can enjoy. To
keep expenses down and to help support those families that may have financial difficulties meeting obligations, each Scout
family is expected to support our once-a-year fundraiser. Though selling products
to family and friends may be a burden to some, it does provide an opportunity to spread the financial burden of supporting
our program to others willing to support us. Please fully participate in fundraising
activities by participating in at least one of our sales weekends and by selling the products to family and friends.
8.
All registration
fees and Pack dues must be paid promptly.
9.
Den activity
dues are determined by the Den Leader. Dues must be paid at each Den meeting whether or not the child is present.
10. Parents are encouraged to participate
and assist in Den meetings. With the Den Leaders approval, parents with commitments
may escort the child into the Den meeting making sure that at least two leaders are present before leaving. In accordance with the Boy Scouts of America’s Youth Protection Guidelines, two adult leaders must
be present at all meetings at all times. Parents must promptly return to pickup
their child. If a different responsible adult will be picking the child up, the
Den Leader must be notified of exactly who will be picking up the child prior to leaving.
Photo identification will be required.
PACK 66 KINGSTON WEBSITE POLICY
The Pack’s website is a tool to broadcast information to the Pack 66 family.
It provides a place where all families and cubs may visit to gather the latest information on Pack activities and events. It also provides a means to display to the world our good deeds and fun activities. With this in mind we have provided the following guidelines.
1.
The
safety and privacy of our Pack family is paramount. Names, email addresses, phone
numbers, and home addresses shall not be shown on the website or shared with any organization except with the Pack 66 family
and Narragansett Council.
2.
Absolutely
no names will be used on any page of our website for any reason with the exception of the Cubmaster and Pack Committee members
when appropriate. Placing phone numbers online will also be discouraged, thereby
using email as the primary form of communication with the Pack.
3.
Pack
66’s website content will only consist of cub scouting information specifically related to Pack 66. All content will be appropriate to the Scouting movement and kid friendly.
4.
No
links or content will be allowed on Pack 66’s website that is not related directly to Scouting.
5. Pictures of our Pack family may only
be displayed on our website without any personal information (name, age, address, phone, email, etc.). There are no exceptions.
